How it scores
A score out of 100, in three parts.
50 pts
Coverage
Did you answer all 13 core YC topics? Each is weighted by importance. What you're making and your progress count most.
30 pts
Substance
Do your answers say something? Open questions need 15 or more words. Blank, N/A and redacted answers lose credit.
20 pts
Specifics
Did you include what YC asks for: a user or customer number, revenue or a clear "no", how long you've worked on it, and a demo link?
Complete 85+Mostly complete 60+Partial 35+Incomplete
- Complete isn't the same as good. This checks that you answered everything, not whether your answers are convincing. It doesn't predict acceptance.
- Questions are found by their wording. If a question is phrased very differently from YC's, it may show as not found. Open "How we read your file" to check.
- 15 words is a rough bar. A sharp 10-word answer will still be flagged as thin.
- Every application is scored against the full checklist. If you answered an older YC form that didn't ask about users or revenue, those gaps will count against you.
